At first mention, it seems like they would just be used to… y’know… shade things. but this is far from the truth! Shaders allow on-the-fly manipulation of images and textures through code. The possibilities are endless, given the patience of a million of the world’s wisest monks.
Godot (excellent game engine, by the way) has a great visual shader interface to assist with more complex ones. It’s hard to wrap your head around the concepts at first, but momentum builds pretty quickly. Avoiding shaders out of fear of code was probably one of the biggest mistakes I’ve made in my journey (if you can call it that) so far. So I advise anybody reading this to get off their asses and learn how to code shaders!!!!!
Strange, short post today. Been busy lately.
